Evaluation: Question 6

Unfortunately the video we filmed for this question stops part way through, this is because the file became corrupted.

After the clip finishes at this point, we discuss further about the technologies we have learnt about. Including the fact that none of us had ever used a camera, tripod or an editing software before. As well as discussing about how we learnt how to insert music into premier pro. After looking at a range of websites we didn't find one which was suitable, as a majority of them you had to pay for or had copyright spoken on top of the clips. Therefore decided it was best to use music from YouTube, plus YouTube also offers a large range of music to chose from.

Sound Experimental Task

Sound is a very significant part of films as it can change the whole meaning. It can make the audience feel emotional, fearful or angry, therefore is important when creating the feel of the film. This video shows this with a clip from 'Pirates of the Caribbean':

After Effects

For the start of our thriller trailer we decided to create a production logo using the software After Effects. We decided to call it 'Fog Productions' as it gives a sense of eeriness so indicates o the audience that our film is of a thriller or horror genre.

However once we finished our the short clip would not export all the layers into Premier Pro. Therefore the background we created in After Effects cannot be seen. So in our final draft of our trailer only the word in the logo will be visible as there is no background.

This is what our production logo should've looked liked:

Risk assessment of  'In her mind'

This is a document which must accompany any filming. This makes sure that the person responsible when when on a location has considered the safety of everyone involved in the filming, from the contributor, the crew to the general public.

Storyboard of 'In her mind'

A storyboard is a graphic organizer in the form of illustrations or images. This shows the different stages of our opening which we will follow when filming.

Storyboard 4

Screenplay of our thriller opening

The screenplay is a preview of a script of a film, including acting instructions and scene directions. It often shows shooting directions on how it should be acted and filmed as well as the locations within the film. This is produced before the storyboard as an initial outline of the film.

One Page Pitch

A One Page Pitch is used in the industry as the first outline and ideas about a film. It is then presented to the production team where questions will be asked to see if the team wants to produce the film.

This video shows us pitching our first original ideas:

Researching age groups

As part of our work for Section A of the exam, we were asked to analyse the representation of certain age groups in TV dramas and relate this to actual demographic information. We looked at the 20 to 30's age group. Although our thriller will focus on characters who are teenagers it was useful to understand where representation of certain age groups come from, common stereotypes and counter types and how audiences of certain ages are targeted by real media productions. This is useful for us in constructing the representation of our characters and considering our audience.

Key Director Case Study

I have chosen to study the film director Martin Scorsese who is an American director born in 1942 whose career spans more than 53 years. Scorsese has also worked on many different projects as either a producer, screenwriter, or film historian. Scorsese has been a director for 59 credits, his most famous work includes The Wolf Of Wall Street, Goodfellas, The Departed and Shutter Island.

Martin Scorsese has won 136 awards, these include an Oscar and four Golden Globes. Plus has also been nominated for a further 196 awards, this is a result of a 53 year career. In addition to this Scorsese has already announced future projects he is working on, this includes The Irishman (2018) and The Snowman (2017).
Scorsese took his inspiration from classic Hollywood, the French new wave, and the New York underground movement of the early '60s; as he worked to bridge the gap between cinematic history and the future.
